History: In August 1998 the South
Lanarkshire Carers Network was formed to establish a
Network for all unpaid Carers and their issues in South
Lanarkshire.
Prior to this, a steering group had
been meeting as a result of a Carers Strategy which had
been drafted by South Lanarkshire Council in early 1998.
The steering group presented a response to the draft
Carers’ Strategy to South Lanarkshire Council, based on
the collated information gained from a seminar held in
Blantyre Miners Welfare on 21st April 1998.
On
22nd March 1999 within the Council Chambers, Hamilton,
South Lanarkshire Council formally launched the South
Lanarkshire Carers Strategy, together with a response
from a Carer.
Aims and Objectives: The
objectives of the Network are:
- to identify
unpaid Carers in South
Lanarkshire
- further develop
and maintain a Network for unpaid Carers in South Lanarkshire
- to encourage
unpaid Carers to participate in a variety of
consultation processes
- to consult and
engage with unpaid Carers to produce, develop and
provide access to comprehensive information through a
variety of methods
-
to identify gaps in service provision and contribute
to the development of partnership working to improve
services affecting unpaid Carers
- to raise and
develop the profile of unpaid Carers by promoting
their issues at local and national level
Membership: Membership is free and open to
all unpaid Carers and former Carers who live in South Lanarkshire,
